A hire yard built around the return
Most hire businesses think about the drop. We think about the return, because the return is where
a hire either holds together or falls apart. Every item that leaves Clint Mill is counted onto a
tag, checked for damage on the bench, and loaded in a set that matches the tag. When the van comes
back, the same tag is read again and the count is compared line by line. If a trestle is missing
or a light bar has taken a knock, we know within minutes rather than three weeks later when the
next booking is being loaded.
The mill buildings were never designed as a showroom, and we like that. The stone walls, the old
wheel pit and the loading doors give us a working yard rather than a shop front. Marquees are
stored dry under cover, timber trestles sit off the floor, and lighting cases are racked by
function so that a pack can be built in minutes. The wheel stand in the yard is a nod to the
building it all sits in, and a reminder that equipment lasts when it is maintained properly.
We serve Penrith, Carlisle, Keswick, Appleby, Kendal and the smaller fell villages between them,
and we are happy to travel further for a multi-day event with a clear access plan. Quotes are
written plainly: what is included, what is charged separately, when the kit arrives, when it
leaves and what we need from you on site. There are no hidden fees for stairs, gravel or early
calls, provided we know about them before the run is planned.
The team is small and stays small on purpose. The people who quote your event are the people who
load the van, and often the people who help you set out the tables. That continuity matters when
a marquee needs its walls adjusted, when a stage needs one more step, or when the weather turns
and the lighting pack needs to move indoors. You will not be handed to a call centre in another
county halfway through the booking.
